This exhibiton marks the third anniversary of the opening of Galeria Pergola. This collective features the distinctive group of artists from throughout Mexico which the gallery represents. This impressive collection is stylistically diverse and offers a brief snapshot of some the finest art being produced in Mexico today.

Mexican Modern Masters II

Calería Pérgola presents Mexican Modern Masters, the second annual exhibition of works by some of the most important Mexican artists of the 20th century. Included are works on paper by Rufino Tamayo, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jose Luis Cuevas, Pedro Coronel, and others. Many of the pieces represented in this exhibition were created in the 1960s and 1970s during the height of Mexico's "Ruptura" movement, which criticized muralist art and promoted more artistic freedom of expression.

Variantes Collective

The Photography of Josephine Sacabo

This solo exhibition features two bodies of work by internationally acclaimed photographer Josephine Sacabo. The first is a selection from the artist's series "El Mundo Inalcanzable de Susana San Juan" or the "Unreachable World of Susana San Juan." The other works - photogravures - are from a new series entitled "Nocturnes" which explore dreams and inner perspectives of the night.

Vladimir Cora - Escenarios

This solo exhibition featuring Mexican master Vladimir Cora is entitled "Escenarios" or "Stages." Cora, who lives and works in Acoponeta, Nayarit, was a protege of Rufino Tamayo and Jose Luis Cuevas - two of the most widely recognized Mexican modern masters. "Escenarios" represents the first and only exhibiton of his drawings in the artist's forty-year career. The works in charcoal, pastel, pencil, with some mixed media span a period of ten years and offer a glimpse into Cora's power and creativity.

This exhibition features all recent works by many of the Gallery's favorite artists, plus introduces a few notable additions exhibiting with Galería Pérgola for the first time. Cazando Espacios

This exhibition features the work of two artists from Mexico City, Mariló Carral and Liliana Duering. Carral, a second generation painter, creates canvases alive with color, which typically depict impressionistic flowers and landscapes. Liliana Duering works in softer hues and represents abstract compositions drawn from real life or her imagination. The artists' name for the exhibition: "Cazando Espacios" (Hunting Spaces), expresses how they search to bring their art to realization.

Mexican Modern Masters

Galeria Pergola presents this exhibition of works by some of the most important Mexican artists of the 20th century. Included are works on paper by Rufino Tamayo, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jose Luis Cuevas, and others. Many of the pieces represented in this exhibit were created in the 1960's during the height of the "Ruptura" movement in Mexico which was focused on creating universal art, not of a muralist nature.

Arte de Lupina Flores

Galeria Pergola features the work of painter Lupina Flores from Monterrey, Mexico. Her canvases capture a combination of intense energy and subtlety, and depict abstract compositions as well as her recurring theme of "Zoologia Fantastica" - Fantastic Zoology. Flores's sense of color contributes much to her talent.

Cinco Por Cinco

Cinco Por Cinco (Five by Five) brings together three artists from Oaxaca and two from Monterrey, Mexico. Included in the exhibit is renown ceramic artist Adan Paredes whose wall pieces are rich in texture with interesting shapes. Lorena Silva's pieces combine highly fired clay juxtaposed with colored glass glazes. Yolanda Marroquin paintings depict villages - the ever-growing population of Mexico. Painter Jose Guerrero expresses traditional subjects in a powerful abstract style and Sara Corenstein's impressionist paintings capture islands in the sea in soothing palettes.

Variantes

Galeria Pergola introduces a solo exhibition by Mexican master Vladimir Cora entitled "Varientes" or Variants. The works presented cover a broad spectrum of subject matter, themes, and media created by this highly respected artist from the state of Nayarit, Mexico. His early paintings captured the attention of such notable Mexican masters as Rufino Tamayo and Jose Luis Cuevas. Today at age 54, Cora is one of the leading talents in Mexico.

Paisanos

Paisanos, which means countrymen, is an exhibition bringing together several of our artists who live and work in Monterrey including: Jose Guerrero, Yolanda Marroquin, Raul Oscar Martinez, Rosario Guajardo and Cuahutemoc Rodriguez Sanchez. Each artist's style is unique - some abstract, some figurative, some surreal, and all representative of some of the finest work being created in Mexico today.

Granda, Flores, Thiel, Pasquel

Galeria Pergola is pleased to present this exhibition which brings together four diverse talents from three of Mexico's acclaimed art centers. Luis Granda, from Mexico City, is considered one of the living masters of Mexico. His works are both figurative and abstract. Lupina Flores is an accomplished painter from Monterrey who uses intense color and often captures both fury and tenderness in her work. Ana Thiel is an internationally known sculptor who creates mixed-media sculptures combining hot cast glass with found objects such as furniture, machine parts, metal, weathered wood, and other materials. Elisa Pasquel is a painter from Monterrey who often depicts spaces - both interior rooms and exterior cityscapes.

Galeria Pergola features a rotating collective exhibition presenting the complete group of artists represented to date. The artists and styles featured are diverse and range from paintings to works on paper to sculpture. Lupina Flores: Profiles of Emotion

This solo exhibition features the work of Lupina Flores, from Monterrey, Mexico. Flores has been referred to as an iron chain and a dove who knows how to sing. These words describe the juxtaposition of the fury and tenderness she captures on canvas. This is a woman who paints with passion and is in love with color depicting contrast and harmonies, or separating delicate lines with explosive strokes.
