Maldonado Artist's Talk
On Sunday, July 27, 2008, Jose Ignacio Maldonado delivered an artist's talk for his exhibition debut at Galeria Pergola entitled "Pedro Paramo - Visiones de Comala." The exhibition of paintings and drawing are Maldonado's interpretations from the acclaimed Mexican novel "Pedro Paramo," published originally in 1955. The artist has been touched by the story over a 35-year period and recorded these "visions" over the last two years. The novel centers around the ghost-like town of Comala which is haunted by whispers, shadows and tormented spirits. Mr. Maldonado delighted guests with his personal thoughts about the novel and his inspirations behind the work.
Marti Selected for NY Academy Show
The work of Galeria Pergola artist Alfonso Marti was selected to be included in a special exhibition at the New York Academy of Art in Manhattan. Opening March 21, 2007, the exhibition is entitled "Emerging Artists from Mexico and Latin America," and is presented by the International Cultural Exchange (ICE), which is dedicated to supporting and advancing the work of artists from the Americas. The exhibition will include more than 70 works of art by emerging artists from Mexico and other countries from Latin America. They are some of the most talented artists selected from the more than 200 that ICE actually promotes. The New York Academy of Art is a 25-year old institution dedicated to advancing figurative drawing, painting and sculpture.
Elisa Pasquel Awarded First Place
Artist Elisa Pasquel from Monterrey was recently awarded a first place in ceramics in Mexico's Biennial of Art at the National level. Ms. Pasquel is a talented artist who works in ceramics as well as encaustics and painting. She is represented in San Miguel by Galeria Pergola and we offer our sincere congratulations to her for this prestigious honor.
Paisanos Exhibition Opening
July 22 marked the opening of "Paisanos" or Countrymen. This exhibition is comprised of works from five of Galería Pérgola's Monterrey, Mexico, based artists: Raul Oscar Martinez, Rosario Guajardo, Yolanda Marroquin, Jose Guerrero, and Cuahutemoc Rodriguez. The collective covers a broad spectrum of styles ranging from figurative to surreal to abstract. The summer evening event drew close to two hundred attendees.
Western Interiors and Design Magazine
Galería Pérgola is featured in the July/August special arts issue of Western Interiors and Design magazine. The gallery is one of nine listed on the “Accents on Art” page. Western Interiors and Design was recently recognized as the Best Home & Design Magazine in the 2005 Maggie Awards.
Lupina Flores Opening
On Friday, February 18, Galería Pérgola hosted an opening reception for the Lupina Flores exhibition, “Profile of Emotions.” The event drew an overwhelming 350 guests, with the crowd spilling out onto the Pérgola terrace. The artist was in attendance to describe her work process. The exhibition runs through March 17.
